The product range for the audio system in the S80, S60, S60 R, V70, V70 R as well as XC70 consists of three system levels:

- Premium Sound System

- High Performance Sound System

- Performance Sound System

The highest level, Premium Sound, offers top-notch sound reproduction. The system consists of a radio with integrated CD changer and Dolby Pro Logic¹ processor that runs a powerful, 300 Watt amplifier, which in turn runs 11 (V70, V70 R, XC70), 13 (S60 S60 R) or 9 (S80) speakers.

The intermediate level, High Performance Sound, offers powerful sound reproduction. The system consists of a radio with either a CD-player or CD-changer that runs a powerful, 200 Watt amplifier, which in turn runs 8 speakers in S80, S60 S60 R, V70, V70 R and XC70.

The base level, Performance Sound, offers good sound reproduction. The system consists of a radio with either a CD player or cassette player that drives up to 8 speakers.

To further enhance sound reproduction in the bass register in (V70, V70 R) and XC70 Volvo offers a subwoofer. Subwoofer provides increased dynamics and a powerful and deep bass that markedly enhances the sound experience. The subwoofer is installed under the floor in the luggage compartment. In order to install the subwoofer, the car must be factory-installed with either Premium Sound or High Performance Sound.

AUX. Analogue input is available for HU 850 and HU 650 after w0648. AUX makes it possible to connect a portable music player to the car's sound system, but only the sound volume can be adjusted.

The audio systems can be supplemented with:

- Remote control

- External CD changer for 10 discs.

- External Digital Jukebox, a hard disk player that plays formats such as MP3 and WMA.

-iPod® adapter

- External Sirius Satellite radio receiver (only USA from and including model year 2005).

The audio system in S80, S60, S60 R, V70, V70 R and XC70 is connected to the electrical system via a data bus (CAN). A number of functions are controlled via the data bus:

• - Phone muting

• - Symbol lighting

• - Display lighting

• Speed dependent volume

• Steering wheel mounted controls

• Market configuration

• System/car configuration (e.g. installation of CD changer or amplifier)

• Diagnostics
