INTRODUCTION

  • Read through all of the instructions before starting installation.

  • Notifications and warning texts are for your safety and to minimise the risk of something breaking during installation.

  • Ensure that all tools stated in the instructions are available before starting installation.

  • Certain steps in the instructions are only presented in the form of images. Explanatory text is also given for more complicated steps.

  • In the event of any problems with the instructions or the accessory, contact your local Volvo dealer.

  • Make a note of the anti-theft radio code

  • Move the right front seat to the rearmost position

  • Turn the ignition key to position O

  • Cars with manual gearboxes: Remove the ignition key.


    Note!

    Wait at least five minutes before disassembling the connectors or removing other electrical equipment.


  • Disconnect the battery negative lead.

Applies if the radio is already installed

  • Press in the two latch handles on the sides of the radio

  • Grasp the latch handles. Pull the radio out

  • Disconnect the connectors from the radio. Place the radio to one side.

  • Remove the two screws (1) holding the dashboard environment panel (2). These two screws are on the base of the radio tray.

  • Remove the panel in front of the gear selector lever. Pry off the panel using a weatherstrip tool

  • Move the gear selector lever to its rearmost position.

  • Remove the panel. Press in the catches at the front edge.

Illustration C applies to the S80

  • Remove the panel (1) and the boot. Carefully pry off the panel. Use a weatherstrip tool.

  • Remove the two screws from the dashboard environment panel.

  • Shift the gear selector lever into rearmost position

  • Pull the panel (1) with the boot backward as far as possible

  • Remove the screws (2) from the dashboard environment panel (3).

  • Angle the dashboard environment panel outwards so that it is possible to insert a couple of fingers between the centre console and the side of the dashboard environment panel

  • Detach the dashboard environment panel by pulling it downwards while maintaining the same angle. Some force is required because the panel is tightly installed

  • Disconnect the connectors on the reverse of the dashboard environment panel. Place the dashboard environment panel to one side.


Note!

If any of the outer hooks break off, these must be repaired. The method for this can be found in the Service Manual in the section covering the dashboard.

  • Remove the screws (1) from the radio bracket

  • Pull out the bracket. Pull the lower corner while pressing downwards.

    Remove:

  • right side panel (1) by turning the screw clip at the rear edge of the panel half a turn. Pull the panel outwards and backwards

  • the sill trim panel (2) at the right front door

  • the covers (3) for the front seat mounting.

  • Remove the seat cushion (1). First lift the front edge of the cushion and then pull forwards

  • Fold the right rear backrest forward.

  • Remove the right side cushion. First pull the upper edge of the cushion backwards. Then lift the cushion.

  • Pull the door sill out of the right-hand rear door. Start at the rear edge

  • Push the floor and insulation panels to one side so that the connectors in the front edge of the wheel arch can be seen.

  • Remove the cargo compartment carpet at the rear edge. First turn the two knobs (1) 90°.

  • Pull up the front of the cargo compartment carpet. Fold the front half back over the rear half of the cargo compartment carpet.

  • Slide the entire cargo compartment carpet forward slightly. Twist slightly to remove the cargo compartment carpet through the tailgate opening.

  • Remove the cargo compartment carpet.

  • Press the centres of the clips at the lower edge of the folding side panel on the left-hand side until a click is heard

  • Remove the clips.

  • Turn the handle (1) on the right-hand side through 90°.

  • Fold the side panel inwards. Lift the panel out.

    Remove:

  • the clips (1) in the right front side panel in the cargo compartment

  • the clip (2) at the top of the front edge on the side panel for the rear folding backrest (two clips on the S80)

  • the panel.

  • Remove the right-hand folding panel in the cargo compartment.

  • Remove both the floor hatches. First lift the rear edges of the floor hatches slightly. Then pull the hatches backwards from their mountings.

Illustration B applies to V70 with an auxiliary rear facing seat

  • Remove the right side floor hatch by prising up one end. Use a weatherstrip tool.

  • Remove the right-hand side panel. First remove the cover and the screw at the front edge

  • Pull the top of the panel out until the clips release

  • Fold the panel inwards. Lift the panel out.

Illustration B applies to cars with an auxiliary rear facing seat

  • Remove the right-hand side panel. First remove the cover and the screw from the front edge

  • Pull the top of the panel out until the clips release

  • Pull the seat belt out of the holder (1)

  • Remove the safety cover. First bend out the hooks on the underside. Pull the cover straight up

  • Fold the panel inwards. Lift the panel out.

  • Route the cable harness (from the kit) from the cut out for the radio between the front air duct (1) and the stay (2) for the centre console

  • Clamp the cable to the stay. Use the tie strap (3) from the kit

  • Route the cable harness further under the carpet and along the front air duct to the seat mounting member (4)

  • Secure the cable harness at the existing cable harness (5) using the tie strap from the kit.

  • Continue to route the cable under the carpet and under the cable ducts (1 and 2) along the right-hand side of the car towards the cargo compartment. Ensure that the cable harness is securely pressed down between the sills and carpets

  • Route the cable harness under the existing wiring and the connectors by the cable duct (2).

  • Route the cable harness (1) out through the hole in the bodywork at the front edge / top edge of the wheel arch and along the right-hand side of the rear cable duct (2) to the right tail lamp.

Illustration B applies to the V70

  • Route the cable harness (1) out through the hole in the bodywork at the front edge / lower edge of the wheel arch and along the right-hand side of the rear cable duct / floor support (2) to the right tail lamp. Lift up the insulation panel for the wheel arch slightly to route the cable harness between the floor support / cable duct and the wheel arch.

  • Remove the screw (1) from the accessory electronic module lock facing

  • Pull the lock facing out to the right. Remove the lock facing.

  • Lift the accessory electronic module out of the bracket.

  • Disconnect the large connector from the Accessory Electronic Module. First press in catch A. Pull the black locking handle B in the direction of the arrow until a click is heard. Disconnect the connector

  • Disconnect the connector from the accessory electronic module.

    Remove:

  • the black catch holding the black switch in place in the connector by pulling in the direction of the arrow

  • the black switch by inserting a pointed object into the hole in the other end. Press the switch out.

  • Connect the routed cable harness to the connector for the accessory electronic module as follows:

  • Cable marked TEL MUTE to terminal 12

  • Cable marked RHEOSTAT + to terminal 13

  • Cable marked SPEED-IN to terminal 14

  • Cable marked AERIAL to terminal 30.


Note!

The number markings can be found on the top of, and underneath the black switch. However, the markings are extremely small so be careful when installing the four cables.

    Reinstall:

  • the black switch in the connector. Lock into place using the catch

  • the connector into the accessory electronic module. Lock into place using the black arm

  • the accessory electronic module into place. Secure any excess cable

  • the lock facing above the accessory electronic module. Tighten the screw and the nut. Tighten to 10 Nm (8 lbf.ft.).

  • Clamp the cable harness at the right-hand cable duct in the cargo compartment (applies to the S60 and the S80. See procedure ).

    Install / Position / Fold back into position:

  • the panels in the cargo compartment

  • the cargo compartment carpet

  • both the floor hatches

  • the sill trim panel in the right-hand rear door

  • the insulation panel

  • the side cushion

  • the backrest

  • the seat cushion

  • the right-hand front floor carpet

  • the sill trim panel in the right front door

  • the two covers

  • the right side panel for the centre console.

    Applies if the radio is already installed

  • Disconnect the connectors (1) from the connectors (2) in the existing T-cable (3) from the radio

  • Place the T-cable to one side. The T-cable will not be reused

  • Connect the new cable harness and T-cable at the same location as the old ones.

    Applies to all models:

  • Reinstall the radio tray

  • Connect all wiring to the radio

  • Connect the aerial adapter.

    Reinstall:

  • the radio

  • the dashboard environmental panel

  • the panel around the gear selector lever

  • the panel in front of the gear selector lever (S60 and V70).

  • Turn the ignition key to position II

  • Reconnect the battery negative lead

  • Program the software. See the service information in VIDA

  • Program the radio code.
