INTRODUCTION

  • Read through all of the instructions before starting installation.

  • Notifications and warning texts are for your safety and to minimise the risk of something breaking during installation.

  • Ensure that all tools stated in the instructions are available before starting installation.

  • Certain steps in the instructions are only presented in the form of images. Explanatory text is also given for more complicated steps.

  • In the event of any problems with the instructions or the accessory, contact your local Volvo dealer.

  

Note!

The work is done in the same way on left-hand and right hand drive car. Left-hand drive is shown. In case the work differs, right hand drive version is also shown.

On cars with pre-wired connector to 12V socket (two-pin black connector located under right tail light), the cable harness A and B in the kit shall be used. On cars without this connector, use all three cable harnesses in the kit.

  • Open the boot lid/tailgate.

  • Undo the catches and slide the cover forwards.

Applies to cars with integrated child seat in the middle of the backseat

  • Pull up the cover from the lower mountings and place it aside. It shall not be reused.

  • Remove the two screws in the brackets for the armrest and lift it out.

  • Remove the three screws with washers and brackets on both sides.

  • Unhook the cover on both sides and place aside. The cover shall not be used again.

  • Reinstall both brackets on the armrest and tighten down.

  • Fold the backrest forward.

  • Remove the seat belt from the guide on the left side cushion.

  • Insert a hand from the side of the upper section of the side bolster. Press in the catches properly and jerk the upper edge of the bolster so that the two catches on the other side release. Lift the bolster from the mounting at the lower edge.

  • Remove the screw in the opener for the cover for long load, swing out the opener and remove it.

  • The screw shall be used again, but not the opener.

    Remove:

  • cover in right-hand side panel.

  • the three clips in the top edge of the side panel.

  • the three rear plastic nuts at the rear edge of the side panel.

  • the connector to the cargo compartment lighting.

    Remove:

  • Twist out the panel to access the tail lamp.

  • Get the cooler from the kit.

  • Take the lead (1) with the two green connectors and hide it behind the casing.

  • Get a piece of foam tape from the kit and remove the protective film.

  • Wrap foam tape around the two connectors and place them according to figure B.

Installation

Applies to all models

A and B

  • Place the cooler over the hole in the backrest so that the rail (1) in the cooler can be slid over the edge (2) in the hole in the backrest when it is pushed backward.


Note!

Make sure that the hidden lead end is not trapped when the cooler is installed.


  • Lower the cooler and slide it on using the edge in the hole.

  • Tighten the cooler's upper mounting with the screw for the cover opener.

  • Get the mounting strip and screws from the kit.

  • Push up the mounting strip so that the two catches (1) rest directly against the inner edge on the cover opening.

  • Make holes for the screws for the cooler's spring nuts through the mat.

  • Tighten the mounting strip using the two screws.

  • Reinstall the armrest. Torque-tighten the screws with 6 Nm (4.5 lbf ft).

  • Press on the cable conduit with lead, and with Velcro strap, from the cooler to the bottom of the backrest.

  • Route the cable harness from the cooler back in the luggage compartment along the cable conduit's left side.

  • Clamp down the cable harness to the cable conduit with strip clamps. Do not tighten the clamps yet.

  • Move the backrest with the cooler back and forth, and check the cable harness' movement.

  • Tighten down the strip clamps with the cable harness in best position so that it does not contact with the bracket for the backrest.

  • Get cable harness A from the kit and plug in the grey two-pin connector to the connector on the cable harness from the cooler.

  • Get a piece of foam tape and remove the protective tape.

  • Wrap foam tape around the connectors to prevent rattling.

  • Continue to route the cable harness back along the cable conduit and existing cable harness.

  • The leads with grey connector and relay with relay holder are located as shown. Later, the rest of the cable harness shall be routed along the rear trunk over to the right side, if the car is provided with pre-wired connector to 12V socket.

  • Clamp the cable harness with strip clamps.

Applies to cars with pre-wired connector for 12V socket and that has cable harness routed along the rear trunk

  • Route the longer part of the cable harness A behind the cargo lashing eye along existing cable harness on the rear trunk to the luggage compartment's right side.

  • Clamp in the cable harness to the existing cable harness using cable ties.

Applies to cars with a 12V socket

  • Plug in the two-pin male connector (1) which was disconnected from the 12V socket to corresponding connection (2) in the routed cable harness. The remaining connection in the routed cable harness is later connected to the 12V socket when the side panel is reinstalled.

  • Clamp up the extra lead with strip clamp.

Applies to cars without 12V socket

  • Connect the pre-wired two-pin connector (1) to corresponding connector (2) in the routed cable harness.

  • Clamp excess cable and extra connector with strip clamp.

Applies to cars with pre-wired connector for 12V socket, but does not have cable harness along the rear trunk

  • Get four strip clamps with clips from the kit and press them into the holes in the rear trunk.


Note!

Install the clamps so that the strip clamp is inserted from below.

  • Clamp down the cable harness with strip clamps.

Applies to cars with a 12V socket

  • Plug in the two-pin male connector (1) which was disconnected from the 12V socket to corresponding connection (2) in the routed cable harness. Later the remaining connection in the routed cable harness is connected to the 12V socket when the side panel is reinstalled.

  • Clamp up the extra lead with a strip clamp.

Applies to cars without 12V socket

  • Connect the pre-wired two-pin connector (1) to corresponding connector (2) in the routed cable harness.

  • Clamp excess cable and extra connector with strip clamp.

Applies to cars without pre-wired connector for 12V socket

  • Get cable harness C from the kit and plug in the grey two-pin connector (1) to the pre-wired grey connector (2) under the left tail light.

  • Left-over grey connector (3) is clamped.

  • If the car is equipped with TRM and/or ECU, the two-pin connector is connected to one of these. Unplug the connector from any of them and connect the cable harness' grey connector between TRM/ECU and the unplugged connector.

  • Get cable harness B from the kit and plug in the grey two-pin connector to the remaining grey connector in the cable harness A.

The number of modules varies depending on car model, but the mutual placement is always the same.

  • Insert a weatherstrip tool in the crack between the module's inner and outer part. Turn carefully so that the blockings in the positions are removed and the cable terminal can be pressed into place.

  • Press the cable terminal into position FB 1.

Applies to cars with two fuse/relay modules

  • Displace the modules backwards so that only one of the modules is reinstalled in the holder.

  • Press the modules into the holder.

Applies to cars with three or four fuse/relay modules

  • Reinstall the modules in the same position as before.

  • Loosen the upper ground screw on the left side in the rear trunk. If the car is equipped with trailer hitch, a ground cable is already installed.

  • Connect the ground cable from cable harness B and tighten the screw with 10 Nm (7.5 lbf ft).

  • Place the ground cable behind the cargo lashing eye.

  • Clamp the cable to the relay and the cable that was connected on the back of the module RJB B with strip clamp to the thick cable harness to the modules.

Applies to cars with pre-wired connector for 12V socket

If the car is equipped with electric parking brake or media player, make sure that cable harnesses are clamped together and routed so that they do not chafe against the brackets for these.

  • Bundle the grey connectors with all excess cable from cable harness A and B and clamp with strip clamp from the kit. Make sure to bundle connectors in such a way that they do not come loose and rattle.
