A towing device especially developed for the North American market. It is easy to remove the ball section by removing a pin. This makes room for Volvo's towbar-mounted accessories.
Each Volvo towbar has been designed for your Volvo. They are an integral part of the car's body and have been tested to ensure that they meet the most stringent safety and function requirements.
For complete towbar installation, the Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) function is activated. The task of Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) is to stabilize a vehicle with a connected trailer in situations where the vehicle/trailer combination starts to snake. The function is part of the ESC stability system1.
Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) constantly monitors the vehicle's movements, especially laterally. If snaking is detected, braking is applied to individual wheels, which provides a stabilizing effect on the vehicle/trailer combination. This is usually enough for the driver to regain control of the vehicle. If snaking is not suppressed despite the first engagement of Trailer Stability Assist (TSA), braking is applied to all wheels in the vehicle/trailer combination and the engine's driving force is reduced. When snaking is gradually suppressed and the vehicle/trailer combination is stable again, the system cancels the regulation and the driver regains full control of the vehicle.
The towbar consists of three main parts: cross member, ball holder and a 2" diameter ball. The vehicle is prepared for installation in the bodywork. The towbar comes complete and ready to be installed.
The towbar is treated in several stages to provide excellent protection for corrosion resistance.
The trailer module manages the electronic communication between the car and trailer.

The vehicle must be equipped with option prep 1091 from the factory (does not apply to USA and Canada) in order for it to be possible to install the towing bracket. In certain markets, this option prep is removed as standard. Markets affected may vary over time.

Not suitable for vehicles with illuminated tailgate scuff plate.
The stability function disengages if the driver selects sport mode by activating ESC sport mode via the menu system in the center display.

The towbar is tested for the maximum towing weight and towball load, but may be lower depending on the car version. For precise information, see the car owner's manual or contact your local Volvo dealer.

The chassis numbers for the Trailer Module (TRM) refer to structure week 23w46, when an updated version was introduced. This means that the updated module will need to be installed on all vehicles manufactured after this week.
The chassis number series (VIN) may vary depending on the vehicle's place of manufacture. To identify your vehicle's place of manufacture, refer to the 11th character in your chassis number. This special digit or letter is unique to every factory and indicates which of Volvo's factories built your vehicle. It is important to be aware that two vehicles with otherwise identical chassis numbers may have different origins based on this character.
