INTRODUCTION

  • Read through all of the instructions before starting installation.

  • Notifications and warning texts are for your safety and to minimise the risk of something breaking during installation.

  • Ensure that all tools stated in the instructions are available before starting installation.

  • Certain steps in the instructions are only presented in the form of images. Explanatory text is also given for more complicated steps.

  • In the event of any problems with the instructions or the accessory, contact your local Volvo dealer.

  • Turn the ignition key to position 0.


    Note!

    Wait at least three minutes before unplugging the connectors or removing other electrical equipment.

  • Remove the tunnel console's right-hand side panel by carefully pulling it away starting at the front edge. The side panel is secured with five clips on the inside.

  • Uncover the right-hand side of the tunnel console's front section and the hole for the rubber grommet to the engine compartment by folding aside the passenger compartment carpet and the insulation panel underneath this.

  • Undo the front screw in the mounting for the centre console.

  • Take the bracket for the passenger compartment connector socket from the kit. Tighten it in with the previously removed screw.

  • Align the bracket so that it is straight and torque tighten the screw to 24 Nm (18 lbf.ft.).

  • Fold the carpet back toward the bracket.

  • Take a scriber and pierce a hole in the carpet opposite the two holes in the bracket.

  • Take the passenger compartment connector and two screws from the kit. Tighten the passenger compartment connector into the bracket.

  • Press a locking sleeve (from the kit) onto the passenger compartment connector socket. Slide the locking sleeve as far along the terminal for the passenger compartment connector socket as possible.

  • Take a carpet knife and cut a slit in the carpet just in front of the locking sleeve. Make the cut as long as the diameter of the locking sleeve.


    Note!

    Do not damage any wiring and hoses under the carpet.


  • Remove the passenger compartment connector socket from the bracket and fold the carpet to one side.

  • Cut off the cable ties holding the cable to the electric engine heater at the bracket to the gearbox's upper control, and radiated heat shield.

  • Pull back the radiated heat shield from the connector on the cable to the electric engine heater.

  • Cut off the locking sleeve over the connector and pull off the cable.

  • Remove the radiated heat shield from the cable to the heater. It will be reused.

  • Take the short cable splice from the kit. Lubricate the O-ring on the connector using low temperature grease.


    Note!

    Do not get any grease on the surfaces of the connector.

  • Firmly secure the cable into the heater's connector.

  • Press in a locking sleeve from the kit over the cable splice.

  • Pull on the previously removed radiated heat shield so that it covers the entire junction connector on the heater.

  • Take a grey cable tie from the kit. Tighten the radiated heat shield for the connector on the heater.

  • Take the junction connector, the long cable for the passenger compartment connector, one large and two small locking sleeves from the kit.

  • Lubricate the O-rings on the junction connector and the connector on the cable which was disconnected from the electric engine heater using low temperature grease.


    Note!

    Do not get any grease on the surfaces of the connector.

  • Secure the cables (1) to the passenger compartment connector and electric engine heater properly in any socket in the junction connector.

  • Secure the cable (2), which was previously disconnected from the electric engine heater, properly in the junction connector.

  • Press the locking sleeves over the joints.

  • Position the junction connector with cables at the cable harness which goes into the cold zone at the rear edge of the air cleaner, as illustrated. Insert the long cable for the passenger compartment connector behind the controls for the gearbox and down in front of the steering gear.

  • Clamp the junction connector to the cable harness using cable ties from the kit.

  • Take a double cable tie from the kit. Secure the cable at the upper control for the gearbox.

  • Take a double cable tie from the kit. Secure the cable at the lower control for the gearbox.

  • Press a clip onto the panel edge in the sub frame at the lower torque rod.

  • Press a clip into the right-hand rear corner of the sub frame.

  • Press two double clips from the kit onto the pipes to the power steering.

  • Route the cable over the lower torque rod and to the right. Secure it in the clamp.

  • Secure the cable in the clips and double clamps.

  • Take the radiated heat shield from the kit. Cut off a piece so that 190 mm (7 7/16") remains.

  • Thread the radiated heat shield onto the cable and route it towards the two double clamps.

  • Take the rubber grommet from the kit. Cut away the very top of the largest rubber teat.

  • Lubricate the rubber grommet using low temperature in order to make it easier to install the cable and rubber grommet in the hole in the cowl.


    Note!

    Do not get any grease on the surfaces of the connector.


  • Thread the rubber grommet onto the cable.

  • Adjust the length of the cable from the rubber grommet and out into the engine compartment so that it runs true and does not come into contact with any moving parts in the engine compartment.

  • Insert the cable into the passenger compartment.

  • Press the rubber grommet into the cowl panel.

  • Hide all cable excess under the carpet in the passenger compartment.

  • Take the grey cable tie from the kit. Tighten the radiated heat shield's upper end into the cable.

  • Route the cable onto the bracket for the passenger compartment connector socket.

  • Route the cable from the engine compartment through the hole in the carpet.

  • Lubricate the O-ring using low temperature grease.


    Note!

    Ensure that no grease gets onto the connector surfaces.


  • Connect the cable to the passenger compartment connector socket. Press a locking sleeve (from the kit) over the joint.

  • Fold the carpet back into position. Install the passenger compartment connector using both the screws.
