Positioning the load carriers

  • Ensure that the load carriers are positioned in the correct direction on the rails. The load carriers can be placed anywhere along the entire rails. The longer load carrier must be positioned in front.

Note!

To minimise wind noise when driving the XC90 without a load, the front load carrier should be positioned approximately 200 mm ahead of the centre rail foot and the rear load carrier should be positioned between the centre and rear rail feet.

Important

  • Regularly check that the load carriers and any load are properly secured. Secure the load using straps

  • The maximum roof load on the XC90 is 100 kg (including load carriers)

  • The maximum roof load on the V50 is 75 kg (including load carriers)

  • Distribute the load evenly over the load carriers. Do not load at an angle! Position the heaviest load at the bottom

  • Remember that the centre of gravity and driving characteristics of the car change when there is a load on the roof

  • Bear in mind that wind resistance and therefore fuel consumption increase with the size of the load on the roof

  • Drive smoothly! Avoid hard acceleration, heavy braking and hard cornering.
