INTRODUCTION

  • Read through all of the instructions before starting installation.

  • Notifications and warning texts are for your safety and to minimise the risk of something breaking during installation.

  • Ensure that all tools stated in the instructions are available before starting installation.

  • Certain steps in the instructions are only presented in the form of images. Explanatory text is also given for more complicated steps.

  • In the event of any problems with the instructions or the accessory, contact your local Volvo dealer.

  • Apply the parking brake

  • Shift the gear selector lever to position N / D (automatic gearboxes) or neutral (manual gearboxes).

Removal

    Applies to cars with manual gearboxes

  • Remove the panel for the gear selector lever boot from the centre console. First grasp the rear edge of the boot. Then lift the boot straight upwards from the centre console

  • Bend the panel up. Pull the panel backwards.

Note!

On certain S/V/C70-cars a rubber bellow is positioned under the panel for the gear selector lever boot. Remove the rubber bellow first.


  • Press in the two catches on the holder. Use a pipe wrench. Pull the holder and the boot downwards.


    Note!

    On earlier models the holder is separate from the boot. On later models the holder is integrated with the boot.


Illustration B applies to cars with automatic gearboxes

  • Remove the boot by twisting the circlip 1/4 turn. Then pull the boot downwards.

  • Insert the boot

  • Remove the gear selector lever knob by forcing the knob upwards.


    Note!

    Some force is required to remove the gear selector lever knob.

  • Remove the gear selector lever knob by pulling the knob straight upwards by hand.

Illustration A applies to cars equipped with manual gearboxes

  • Install the new gear selector lever knob in the correct position. Depress the knob so that it is secure, or if it is difficult to depress, hit the knob using a plastic mallet. Use a shim to prevent damaging the knob

  • Pull up the panel with the boot slightly towards the gear selector lever knob

  • Pull the holder up towards the gear selector lever knob. Turn the holder slightly so that the guide (1) inside the holder is correctly positioned on the gear selector lever knob notch (1)

  • Pull the holder up until it locks. Check that the holder is secured on the gear selector lever knob.

  • Install the new gear selector lever knob in the correct position. Depress the knob so that it is secure, or if it is difficult to depress, hit the knob using a plastic mallet. Use a shim to prevent damaging the knob

  • Check that the seams of the boot are straight. Pull the circlip straight up towards the knob. Counterhold the top of the knob. Secure the circlip

  • Pull the knob straight up by hand to check that it is correctly secured.

    Applies to cars with manual gearboxes

  • Reinstall the rubber bellow under the gear selector lever boot on the relevant S/V/C70-cars

  • Reinstall the panel and boot in the centre console. First push down the front edge in the centre console. Press forwards as far as possible, then press the rear edge down so that the catches engage.
